Choosing fitness apparel

If you don’t have the right apparel for your workout, you won’t enjoy training and you won’t make the gains you are aiming for.

Having the right fitness clothing is a matter of organisation and preparation. You must make sure that your gym bag has got everything in it you need to get through the next training session.

Many people new to exercise do not know what clothing to purchase, so here are a few tips to help you make the right decisions.

Pants and Shorts

It is largely a matter of preference between training in pants and shorts, although if you are doing any long or proper running you may opt for shorts. Having said that, you will see plenty of people wearing tights on the treadmill at the gym.

The main material options are lycra, cotton, polyester and spandex. Most modern tights are the elastic type that cling to your legs but ventilate quite well as you exercise.

The more expensive options can cost over $150, but it is dubious as to whether this makes them any more useful. You would do just as well in a much cheaper pair.

It is probably worth investing in two pairs of tights, or one pair of tights and one pair of shorts, so that you can manage a decent training workload.

Most contemporary products can simply be washed in the washing machine.

Singlets and Tops

You will probably need three tops which you can use for training. What you choose largely depends on personal preference and comfort.

The most important thing is for the material to breathe properly. If you get restrictive or heavy tops, your body won’t be able to sweat freely and you will become overheated.

Cotton or polyester tops are probably your best option. It might also be a good idea to make sure you have a long-sleeved option too, in case you need to exercise in the cold.
