How many people truly pay attention to the health of their hair?

Having oily or otherwise unhealthy hair can have a range of wider effects on unsuspecting victims, from causing pimples to premature hair loss and greying.

Here are some basic tips that, if followed, will help you maintain a healthy head of hair and avoid complications.

The first thing to look out for is shampoos that use naturally derived cleansers. These are far less likely to strip your follicles of important oils.

Secondly, do not overwash. Some people make the mistake of washing their hair everyday, and this is simply doing more harm than good. It will lead to an irritated and red scalp. Make sure you wash your hair two or three times per week and on the other days just rinse your hair lightly with water.

Thirdly, be very careful when using a blow dryer, as you risk damaging your hair if you use it incorrectly. Make sure that the blow dryer is held a good distance from your head – at least 30 centimetres – when you use it.

Make sure your diet has enough Omega-3 fatty acids and protein, because these are two of the most important nutrients for hair strength and growth.
